I aim to promote systems of social infrastructure that support public access to knowledge, education, and resources for resilience and adaptation. I am involved with all aspects of world-creating: books, buildings, gardens, spaces, ideas, and so on. 

A critical through-line of my professional journey has been the ability to bring creative, interdisciplinary perspectives into new fields and modalities. I have been involved in fields of architecture, landscape design, art, digital studies, and education. My roles within these fields have varied from researcher, editor, project manager, creative director, teacher, and student. 

My current preoccupation with printed matter stems from a deep-seated value for education in all its forms. Ultimately, I see storytelling as a tool to foster access, belonging, and an expanded imaginative capacity to envision change.

HYPERTEXT
An epistemological and global perspective on cyber-utopianism and the computerized society

A multimedia project that explores cyber-utopianism and the creation of the “computerized society.” 

The advent of hypertext opened up avenues of computing that the world had never experienced before. Now, not only could humans interact with computers in real-time, but computers also had a language to communicate with one another. As the network of interconnected knowledge suddenly ballooned, users were promised a future defined by moral existence, global peace, and man-machine harmony. 

Through exploring the advent of hypertext, I have focused on a specific element from the history of the Internet to demonstrate how early language and cultural narratives were used to promote an idealized future. In comparison to these early promotions, I evaluate how the physical design of this artifact reflects and undermines the intention of the product as communicated to the public. I answer questions such as: how does the structure of the industry (such as political and economic regulations) impact the reception of this artifact? How does the advertisement and promotion of this artifact evolve as the industry structure changes, too?

Cyber-Utopianism and Crypto-Libertarianism

Research, academic writing Using cryptocurrency as a lens, I evaluate how the structure and design of Web 3.0  reflect and undermine the narratives, desires, and hopes broadcast by its promoters. Using a historical lens, I look at how these narratives, structures, and designs seem to be a continuation of the early Internet’s siren calls of utopianism.

In the unit “Gender & Sexuality Online,” my chapter critically examines and redesigns the infrastructure of the modern fertility app to address issues of (1) how a for-profit structure within a larger system of data capitalism results in invasive and gendered privacy breeches, (2) the technological mediation of gender construction, and (3) how neoliberal policies have influenced perceptions and regulations of female reproduction and fertility.
